Fusion Youth Theatre

Our dance performance on TV Africa (Sound Splash) in Ghana, 2008 with TimAfrik dance troup. We toured to various venues in Accra to perform the full show, this is a thoroughly condensed version to fit with the TV studios time slot. It was a great experience, we are hoping to go back in the not too distant future!

Part of a committed team…

I would like to tell you about FUSION YOUTH THEATRE which I have enjoyed for many years now, it is at saint James house in Grimsby. I attend two groups; the Saturday group that is fantastic for new starters and will get you used to being part of a committed team and the Wednesday group for people that would enjoy more serious drama. I never miss a rehearsal if your in the show then your in it….

Saturday group (the Christmas show, The Nutcracker)

I go to the Saturday group and think it is great, we do lots of games and at the moment are working towards our Christmas show, The Nutcracker and there is also singing and dancing involved as well as drama for people that enjoy them all, but don’t have to do them if not interested. I love singing and dancing and this group will always make sure your comfortable with what your doing. I have had great experiences with the Saturday group and love it .

Wednesday group (suffragettes, Deeds Not Words)

On a Wednesday I am doing the suffragettes which is fun but a serious drama and I am learning about women’s rights to vote which will help me in the future, it is cool because you can have fun but learn at the same time !!!

I really love the Wednesday drama group and would definitely recommend it to others. We have a laugh and practice really hard, I always look forward to it.

See you guys soon, Beth.

Amazing Support!

We’ve had lots of amazing support recently, we are thrilled to announce that The Artie White Foundation are donating £500 to buy equipment, we are really grateful and would like to offer them a huge thank you… hopefully something will be in the press real soon! We would never have received the money if youth member Freya Tate had not written to them herself though. She took the initiative to send them a letter asking them if they would be able to support us with a donation and they offered us the money so a big thanks and well done all round and we are keen to make good use of it so that our members will benefit as soon as possible.

In other news, Helen Jagger, a very active member of our parent & friend committee has been in touch with Deebees who have offered some money toward starting our own tuck shop for youth members. This is great news and a big well done to Helen as she has been working on setting up the tuck shop for a while now. A massive thanks to Deebees for their kind donation!

We’d also like to say a massive thanks and well done to everyone who has been helping out recently, Scott Middleton & Karen Meadows who have been manning the door, sending out leaflets and transporting things here and there, Pete & Sue Milsom who have been scrubbing floors, washing glasses and being fantastic, Andy Evans for providing scripts and running sessions, Lucy Wrightson for sticking with us for so long and now running Creative Kids, Beth Laverick for organising wonderful music fundraisers, The Pearson family have been helping out with everything, making signs and providing arts materials, Jo Middleton & Lee Becket at the Grimsby Minster for helping move us in and being so supportive, Cazzie at the Trin Young People’s Centre who is always so accommodating and keen to help where she can, All the Nicholsons for the little bits they do occassionally ;) and Caroline Moorby at Arts Development for helping us bring Becky Crainie on board this term. We’re also excited to be working with Sue Baker and the Music & Performing Arts Service this term and we look forward to naming more wonderful people in a future blog! (so if you’re not on this one, look out for the next one!)

5 Years with FYT

Hello I’m Freya I’m 13 years old and I’ve been a member of fusion youth theatre for about 5 years. Since I was young I always had an interest in acting, the one day when I was 9 years old my mum told me about a local drama group. At first I was didn’t want to go because I was too nervous, but after a few weeks I fitted right in. everyone there was nice and made me feel welcome.

The first production I ever did with FYT was ‘The Carbon Footprint Killer’, I only had a small role because I wasn’t very confident then.

Every year with fusion youth theatre I have travelled to Skegness with the summer school projects for the ‘Skegness youth drama festival’, I’m going this year too with our production of ‘Deeds Not Words’ which is about the Suffragettes, YAY!

My favourite play I have done is ‘A Thousand Cranes’ I did this when I was 9 too. Out of all the plays I have done this one was the most enjoyable and brings back the most memories. I shared the part of Sadako in this production who is one of the main roles. For the particular production the whole cast and the backstage team all together made exactly one thousand paper origami cranes, which I found fantastic and I still remember how to make one off by heart.

Some various plays I’ve been in:

·        The carbon foot print killer

·        A thousand cranes

·        King lear

·        A Christmas carol

·        My story

·        Our new world

·        Monkey king

·        Alice in wonderland

·        Elephants child

·        Cheerleader apocalypse

·        Stone soup

·        Far far away

·        A night of romeo and julliet

Right now I am currently rehearsing for ‘Deeds not Words’ with the Wednesday group and ‘The Nutcracker’ with the Saturday group.
